About IIT Jammu

The Indian Institute of Technology Jammu is a premier Institute of National Importance committed to technological education, research, and innovation. In 2018, IIT Jammu relocated its primary operations to a sprawling 400-acre campus in Jagti village, situated along National Highway-44, just 17 km from Jammu Airport and 19 km from Jammu Tawi Railway Station.

Phase 1A of the main campus, covering 25 acres, is fully operational, while Phase 1B and 1C are under rapid construction. The Paloura campus hosts the Central Instrumentation Facility (CIF / SAPTARSHI Labs), a cutting-edge research facility equipped with advanced instruments supporting researchers in basic sciences and engineering.

Dr. Satyadev Ahlawat

Assistant Professor, Department of Electrical Engineering, IIT Jammu

Dr. Satyadev Ahlawat is currently serving as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering at IIT Jammu. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from IIT Bombay, where he also worked as a Research Scientist in the CADS Laboratory. He has held positions as a Teaching Assistant at IIT Bombay, Lecturer at Kurukshetra University, and Research Assistant at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore.

His primary research interests include VLSI testing and Design-for-Test (DfT) architectures, trusted system design, hardware security, and high-performance processor design. He has taught courses in VLSI design and test, cryptography and hardware security, semiconductor device physics and technology, and computer architecture, and has contributed to several collaborative research projects. His academic credentials include an M.Tech in Microelectronics from Panjab University and an M.Sc. in Electronics from Kurukshetra University.

Under his guidance, the M.Tech in VLSI Design at IIT Jammu equips learners with both the theoretical foundations and applied engineering skills needed to design, verify, and deploy next-generation semiconductor systems.

Campus Immersion: Approximately ₹5,000 per immersion, payable directly to IIT Jammu.
2. Examination Fee: ₹500 per credit (₹17,500 for 35 credits), collected directly by IIT Jammu.

*All payments are made directly to IIT Jammu. **Registration fee of ₹10,000 is paid to Futurense Technologies towards Application Processing. If the application is not accepted by IIT Jammu or Futurense, the registration fee will be refunded in full. However, after the issuance of the Offer Letter, if the student withdraws or drops out for any reason whatsoever, this amount is strictly non-refundable.

If a withdrawal is requested: (A) If a student submits a withdrawal request within 30 days of the batch start date, an amount of ₹1,68,500 (equivalent to the first semester fee) will be deducted regardless of whether the student has paid the full fee or only the first instalment. The remaining balance will be refunded. (B) If a student has paid the full fee of ₹4,49,000 and submits a withdrawal request after 30 days, an amount of ₹3,37,000 (Year 1 fee equivalent) will be deducted, and the remaining amount will be refunded. (C) If a student has paid only the first instalment of ₹3,37,000 and requests a refund after 30 days, no refund will be issued, and the entire amount will be forfeited.

IIT Jammu aims to offer hostel accommodations for outstation candidates during Campus Immersion, depending on availability. We strongly encourage students to plan ahead and make arrangements in advance to ensure a pleasant and comfortable stay during their time on campus. Note: Hostel boarding and lodging charges are to be paid by the candidate based on the number of days hostel facilities are availed.

Is participation in campus immersion mandatory?

The campus immersion phase is a pivotal part of the program, offering students the chance to engage in on-campus activities and sessions during the designated immersion period. The first year of campus immersion is mandatory, while the second-year campus immersion is optional.
During the visit, all original documents will be verified for authenticity. You are also expected to discuss the thesis proposal with your assigned mentor. If a student fails to show the original documents like school/college degree certificates, experience certificates, etc. then his/her admission is liable to be cancelled. You must carry all the original documents during your visit to the campus.
Note: Students will bear their own travel and lodging/boarding expenses for these campus visits.

What is the structure of pre-screening tests for admission into the program?

The pre-screening test assesses your comprehension of fundamental concepts in Analog and Digital Electronics, VHDL, and Logical Reasoning. To be eligible for the program, applicants must achieve a minimum score of 50% (at least 50 marks out of 100) in this test.
The test consists of 50 MCQ questions in total, to be completed in 90 minutes, divided across 4 sections:

Analog Electronics - 12 questions (3 Hard, 5 Intermediate, 4 Easy) | 24 marks | 15 minutes
Digital Electronics - 15 questions (4 Hard, 6 Intermediate, 5 Easy) | 30 marks | 25 minutes

Classes are scheduled on Saturdays and Sundays from 8:30 AM to 2:40 PM; approximately 5–6 hours each day.

1. Minor examinations are conducted online, with proctoring measures in place to ensure integrity. The sessions are recorded for monitoring purposes.
2. Major exams are conducted offline and are conducted at designated centres in various cities, as well as at IIT Jammu.

Additional costs (not included in program fee, paid separately):
1. Campus immersion: approximately ₹5,000 per immersion, payable directly to IIT Jammu or hostel authorities.
2. Examination fees: ₹500 per credit, amounting to ₹17,500 for 35 credits over the entire program duration, collected directly by IIT Jammu.

*Non-Refundable: If the application is not accepted by IIT Jammu or by Futurense, the amount will be deducted in full. However, if after acceptance of the application, the student withdraws or drops out for any reason whatsoever, this amount is strictly non-refundable.

Of course, if your family is funding you or you have your own savings, you should certainly self-fund a portion/whole of the course fees.
