6. Weak typography hierarchy

Fix it by: giving every meaningful action a visible response: a spinner, a checkmark, a toast message, something. Silence is the one thing an interface should never do after a user acts on it.

9. Chasing trends instead of solving the actual problem

Glassmorphism, heavy animation, a hot new layout style seen on Dribbble trend-driven design decisions can look impressive in a portfolio and still work against the product. If a visual trend doesn't serve a specific user need, it's decoration wearing the costume of a design decision.

Fix it by: If the honest answer is "it looks current," that's a signal to slow down, not speed up. Trends are worth watching for inspiration; they're rarely worth adopting wholesale just because a competitor did it first.

A Quick Self-Audit

Reading a list of mistakes is one thing. Before shipping a screen, it helps to run through a short checklist rather than relying on gut feel:

  • Has a real user (not a teammate) tried this flow and completed it without help?
  • Is there one clear primary action on this screen, not three competing for attention?
  • Do buttons, colors, and type sizes match the rest of the product?
  • Can someone navigate to this screen in two taps or fewer from the home screen?
  • Does text pass a basic contrast check against its background?
  • Has this been tested on an actual phone, not just resized in a browser?
  • Does every button, form, and link give some kind of visible response when used?

If more than one or two of these come back "not sure," that's usually where the next round of design review should start.

Building a Process That Catches These Before Launch, Not After
